DA's ads/malware and how to combat it

DeviantArt has recently had a major issue with malware and viruses from their on-site ads that have infected and in some cases destroyed many users' computers. From the comments, I can gather that DA has known this was a potential issue for at least several years now, but clearly they have done nothing about it until they could turn a blind eye no longer.
